Freshman Lindsey Vansant, though unsuccessful in her attempt to make state in her first year, was able to once again break the school record in the 5K race with a 20:28. Though her season may be over, her stand out performance this season improved the previous school record from years prior by almost 2 minutes. Vansant will be returning next season and we look forward to see what progress she makes leading in to track season.
On the boys side every runner ran a person record at Regional Championships. Leading the Generals and qualifying for state a third consecutive year was junior Dominic Williams. Williams performance of 15:49 for the 5K course moves him to second all-time for the Generals passing previous 3-time state qualifier Chris Haynes. Also making a move up the list of Top 20 All-Time was junior Buay Deng, moving from 10th all-time to 7th with a 17:23. Three other runners also moved on to the Top 20 All-Time list with their performances this Saturday: John Hutton (8th - 17:29), Kris Small (15th - 18:29) and Chris Curry (20th - 18:37). Though the team did not advance to State Championships the entire Top 7 will be returning next year and look forward to the challenge in front of them.
