Junior standout runner, Lindsey Vansant, won the Girls Varsity 5,000 meter race Saturday night at the Katie Caples Cross-Country Invitational at Bishop Kenny High School. Vansant dominated the race finishing 29 seconds ahead of the second place finisher, completing the course in 20:50.
In the boys race Senior and team leader, John Hutton, was able to out kick Trinity Prep's Christopher Wilhelm at the line finishing 9th overall for the Generals. Not to be ignored first year Cross-Country runner, Billy Adams, was able to stay close finishing 11th overall for the Generals, just 15 seconds back from Hutton. Hutton and Adams currently rank 8th and 11th on the Generals' all-time list.
The Generals were able to field complete teams for the boys and girls. Competing for the girls were Lindsey Vansant, Kayla Kelley, Rebecca O'Neal, Jamie Alexander and Alexis Williams. Competing for the boys were John Hutton, Billy Adams, Kristopher Small, Johnny Groover, Jerriod Thomas, Jerron Porter and Shamari Thomas.
To update Dequan Jackson's Story featured in the New York Times, he has been able to satisfy his legal obligations. Dequan continues to strive for success academicly and as a member of the Generals' football team.
Since the story broke some have expressed interest in helping Dequan in attending college and improving his future. All donations for Dequan Jackson and his family can be mailed to Robert E. Lee HS but all checks need to be payable to Dequan Jackson or his mother Shenna Jackson.
